About Us

Every skirt and jacket we sell is designed from the waistband outwards, because that is the part of a garment most people notice first and adjust most often. An elastic back sits under a clean front panel, so the skirt keeps its line when you sit down but gives when you stand up. The zip is set into the side seam rather than the centre back, which keeps the front flat under a tucked knit. We test each shape on more than one body before it is photographed, and if the waist rides up when the wearer walks or climbs stairs, the pattern goes back to the table rather than onto the rail.

Plaid is cut, not matched by eye

Matching a plaid across a pleat is slow work, and it is the first thing we check on a finished skirt. Panels are cut from the same bolt, laid in the same direction, and pinned so the lines run continuously from waistband to hem. Where a pleat folds, the pattern is allowed to break, because forcing a match inside a fold distorts the pleat itself. Skirts are fully lined in a light woven cloth so the plaid does not catch on tights, and every jacket carries a working pocket that will hold a phone without pulling the front out of shape. A jacket is also worn over a sweater before it is signed off.

Packed flat, sent from Kentucky

Orders leave our workroom in Berea, Kentucky, folded along the seams and pressed before they are wrapped, so a jacket arrives with its collar sitting the way it did on the table. We post within one to two business days on the standard service, with tracking sent to the email address on the order, and we use a tracked service on every return so nothing goes missing in the post. If a size is wrong, send it back within thirty days with the tags attached and we will refund the item once it reaches us. Sizing questions are answered by the same people who check the samples, by telephone or by message.
